The first annual IHS - Direct Service Tribes National Meeting took
place June 1 - 4, 2004 in Phoenix, Arizona at the Pointe South Mountain
Resort. This inaugural conference attracted 400 attendees. The theme
for this conference, "As Long as the Grass Grows and the Rivers
Flow," made a powerful statement as Tribal leaders from across
Indian Country convened to discuss the unique needs of Tribes that
receive health services directly from the Indian Health Service.
